Cheap Van Insurance: Protecting your van brings about safeguards from any third party accidents claims, theft, fire as well as any act of vandalism that could take place. However, in case your van is unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident thereby becoming damaged your insurance provider is required to get it restored returning it back to it's original condition.

Compulsory EU tyre labelling will come into effect in November of this year. The labelling system will show buyers the fuel economy and wet weather braking capabilities and noise levels of tyres. This tyre performance labelling could have an effect on the way in which we purchase tyres and the brands we choose.
Labels will rate tyre performance on a scale of A-G, similar to the scaling labels used on things such as domestic appliances. Therefore, customers will be able to see at a glance whether the tyre scores highly on performance. However, there is one area which cannot be rated on such a simple scale- tyre longevity. The conditions of use, wear and tear will ultimately determine this, but at least drivers will have some indication as to the quality of their tyres.

It’s not so much a case of Born To be Wild as born to be mild: a new generation of bikers is taking to the road, and they are not twentysomething speed freaks but sensible fiftysomethings.
The number of over-50 silver-riders climbing aboard a motorbike is roaring ahead: they now account for some 30% of all spending on bikes – a total of £340m last year – up from 17% just seven years ago.

Co-op, despite its many travails, is still the “ethical” bank. So how can the group’s insurance arm explain the lousy way it treats its loyal home insurance customers?
A reader from York, Paul Landais-Stamp, emailed me this week in fury over his home insurance renewal quote. Until now he has been one of the Co-op group’s strongest supporters – he and his partner have their current accounts at the bank, have taken out one of its mortgages, and have bought its insurance year in, year out. During the bank’s meltdown he stayed loyal, hoping that “out of the wreckage something resembling an ethical alternative to the major banks will re-emerge”.

We reveal the most popular destinations for those who want to escape the UK over the festive period.
Let’s face it: Christmas in the UK isn’t all mistletoe and wine. As well as the festivities, this time of year can bring sub-zero temperatures, office party embarrassment and family tension bubbling beneath the surface.
With this in mind, you might decide to drop everything this Christmas in favour of a few days away. That only leaves one question… where to go?
According to research from discount site MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, Sydney is the most popular destination for Brits planning a break this year, followed by Dubai and New York City.
This data is based on the most searched-for terms related to Christmas breaks during the past three months.
‘Getting away for the Christmas period can be incredibly tempting, particularly given how stressful the thought of too much family time can be for many,’ said Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk.
‘It’s clear that some people want to get really far away from the annual game of Trivial Pursuit this year,’ he adds.
Most popular Christmas holiday destinations
1) Sydney
2) Dubai
3) New York City
4) Paris
5) Hong Kong
6) Venice
7) Cape Town
8) Tenerife
9) Copenhagen
10) Berlin
However tempting the idea of a Christmas break might seem, these holidays don’t come cheap – especially at a time when our budgets are already stretched.
Fortunately, Santa (well, BeatThatQuote.com) has a few tips on how to cut the cost of yuletide getaways.
Avoid rip-off credit card charges
If you’re using a credit card abroad, most lenders will load charges when you withdraw cash or make a purchase – normally between 2.5% and 3%.
To cut down on these fees, it might be wise to consider a card that allows you to make fee-free transactions abroad. For instance, Halifax’s Clarity Credit Card doesn’t charge borrowers a fee to use the card or withdraw money anywhere in the world.
Get the right travel insurance policy
Whenever you’re travelling abroad, it’s wise to consider travel insurance to protect your valuables and cover the cost of any medical treatment if something goes wrong.
When it comes to holidays over the Christmas period, it’s essential to pick the right type of policy. If you’ll be taking part in any activities such as skiing or snowboarding, you might need to add winter sports cover to your policy.
Set a strict budget for presents
If you and your other half are treating yourself to a trip away over Christmas, it might be sensible to forego presents entirely.
However, you might think this approach has tipped the balance from being frugal to Scrooge-like. If you absolutely have to give presents, try imposing a spending limit or even making your own gifts. While it might sound a bit cheesy, it could force you to get creative.
Now all that’s left to do is try not to get too nostalgic for Christmas pud and reruns of Santa Claus: The Movie come 25 December when you’re sunning yourself abroad.

If you were to compare car insurance rates by state you’d find that similar drivers with similar vehicles pay different rates depending on the state where they live. This is one of the curious aspects of car insurance a lot of people don’t understand. That misunderstanding comes by way of the fact that so many drivers think of cheap car insurance as a static product similar to a computer or television set. By “static” we mean a product that comes off a production line and is identical among all pieces of the same line.
The thing about car insurance is that it’s not static. For example, two different drivers may both have collision and comprehensive coverage on their vehicles but pay different rates for it. This makes complete sense when you consider one driver owns a BMW while the other driver owns a Kia. The values of their respective vehicles heavily influence the cost of their collision and comprehensive insurance.
In terms of the various states, here are a couple of things that influence auto insurance quotes:
State Laws – Far and away the biggest influence on cheap auto insurance at the state level comes by way of insurance regulations. A state where insurance is heavily regulated to the point that it chokes out competition will see higher car insurance costs. Other regulatory conditions that contribute to annual premiums include minimum liability requirements, taxes and fees, how the state’s high risk pools are funded, and how traffic violations are dealt with.
Population Density – Population density is another big factor at the state level. States with high population densities such as California and Massachusetts have the potential for higher insurance rates because there are more drivers on the road to cause accidents.
Accident Rates – The different states experience different accident rates depending on a whole host of factors. Weather, average driver age, road conditions, and economic conditions all play a part in influencing accident rates. Like population density, a state with a higher rate of accidents per capita will see that reflected in car insurance quotes.
Job Outlook – Believe it or not insurance statistics show a greater propensity for insurance claims among specific occupations. Insurance companies can look at those statistics from one state to the next and partially determine rates of accident claims based on occupation and income levels.
Suffice it to say there are a number of things at the state level that contribute to how much you and I pay for insurance. When you’re searching for car insurance quotes, it’s best not to about worry what your cousin and his neighbor are paying two states away. Your state is what it is and that’s not likely to change. By the same token, if you’re thinking of moving to another state and you’re not restricted in your choices, taking into account the likelihood you’ll be able to find cheap car insurance may be a factor in your decision.

With 264 mobile phone thefts reported to the police every day, we reveal the areas where you're most likely to be a victim.
If you’ve ever had your mobile phone stolen, you’re not alone. In fact, 264 mobile phone thefts are reported every day. This is according to research from insurance company LV=, which also found such crimes have increased by 25% during the past three years.
Pickpocketing is the most common form of mobile phone theft with one in six victims having their phone stolen this way.
Crime hotspots
If you’re planning a trip to London’s Hyde Park, you’d be wise to keep a close eye on your phone – 163 mobile phones were stolen in the area between May and August.
Over in Wales, police in Cardiff have received 125 reports of phone theft in the Greyfriars Road area so far this year.
Other high risk areas include Sheffield city centre, where there have been 1,309 thefts. Likewise, the Castle Ward in Leicester and Bristol city centre are also hotspots.
Gadget insurer Protectyourbubble.com also conducted similar research earlier this year. According to its data, those in Brighton are 4.4 times more likely to have their phone stolen than the national average. Next up, Manchester residents are 3.8 times more likely to fall victim to this type of crime.
In contrast, Hull and Sunderland experienced low levels of mobile phone theft, Protectyourbubble.com found.
Any chance I’ll get my phone back?
Sadly, the likelihood is that your phone is gone forever. According to LV=, only one percent of stolen phones is ever recovered... not great odds, then.
In fact, the research indicates that 40% of victims don’t report the incident to the police.
You could increase the chances that your phone will be recovered if stolen by adding your International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number to Immobilise – the national property register. The IMEI is unique to your phone and normally found underneath the battery.
Should I take out insurance?
The answer to this question inevitably depends on the type of handset you have. A couple of years ago, I had my phone taken by a pickpocket on a bus. Considering the handset had only set me back £10, it wasn’t a great financial loss, but it was infuriating nonetheless.
Even if I’d had insurance at that point, the excess would almost certainly have been more than £10, so there would have been little point in claiming.
If, however, you own an iPhone, Blackberry or Android, it could be worthwhile taking out cover and a number of insurers specialise in gadgets.
Alternatively, you might be able to add your phone to your home contents policy, which may mean it’s covered away from the property.
Mobile phones and your data
If your phone is stolen and the culprits get hold of information about you stored on the device, you could be at risk of identity theft.
To minimise the risk, it’s wise to remotely erase all your data if the phone is stolen.
A number of apps such as Where’s My Droid and Find My iPhone allow you to trace missing phones and, if necessary, delete data such as your contacts, social networking accounts and call history.

While auto shows are constantly happening almost year-round an all around the world, there are a few that truly stand out, such as the Paris Auto Show, which runs from Sept. 29 – Oct. 14. As is the case with most significant car shows oversees, most of the models featured are, unfortunately, not for sale in the U.S. However, this year’s show offers a significant number of cars that could have huge potential for their respective manufacturers here in the states. Here are four such models making their auto show debuts in Paris:
No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. The image you see at the top of this post is in fact a BMW. The Concept Active Tourer will provide competition for Mercedes-Benz’s B-Class EV in the upscale, but efficient and utilitarian market. Both cars are aimed at buyers looking for a small, eco-friendly car that can comfortably fit four adults, all while providing more luxurious appointments than typical hybrids and EVs. Shockingly, the car also breaks with BMW tradition of powering the rear wheels by instead sending power from the car’s diminutive 1.5 liter 3-cylinder engine to the front wheels, while a synchronous electric motor powers the rear wheels. The electric motor can run without assistance from the internal combustion engine for almost 20 miles before its lithium-ion battery depletes. The battery can be recharged with a standard household 220-volt outlet.
The Jaguar F-Type marks a significant milestone for the British marquee brand. The all-new F-Type will be the first true convertible sports car the company has offered in, well, ages. The car is aimed at splitting the upscale, small sports convertible/coupe market between cars like the BMW Z4 and Porsche Boxter, and more expensive models like the Porsche 911 and Aston Martin Vantage. The all-aluminum chassis will come strictly as a two-seater, and will be available with a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that pumps out 380 hp and 339 lb-ft. of torque, or a 5.0-liter V8 with a staggering output of 495 hp and 460 lb-ft. of torque. Surprisingly, the vehicle will only be offered with a ZF eight speed automatic transmission (with paddles at least). However, Autoblog.com suspects that a six-speed manual will be offered by the next model year, possibly on an even hotter R model.
Despite the tight economic conditions still looming in the U.S., those who have the income to fork over big bucks for massive, luxo-SUVs continue to do so. For this reason, Land Rover’s new Ranger Rover needs to maintain its success on this side of the Atlantic. The previous model, which debuted in 2002, was a smash hit, and judging from the tweaked, yet familiar styling cues of the upcoming 2013 model, Land Rover doesn’t want to mess with success. While the 2013 model may look like only a sleeker version of the model it replaces from its profile, a substantially redesigned front head draws styling cues from the company’s radical Evoque, as well as a completely restyled interior. Like most manufacturers, even Land Rover is focused on improving efficiency, as the new chassis loses 700 lbs. thanks to an all-aluminum unibody structure.
While it may not be as intriguing as the more expensive, luxurious, and sporty offerings mentioned above, the new Golf is certainly the most significant in terms of potential sales figures. The small, sporty-yet-practical hatch has been a hit for 20-something-year-old buyers in the states for decades, and VW needs a strong sales performance from the car in the U.S. to keep up with the company’s goals of being the world’s largest manufacturer, as well as the best in a tough economic climate. The new Golf features a complete redesign and an all-new platform that uses lightweight, high-strength steel. The new steel structure makes the car 220 lbs. lighter than the model it replaces, while growing a half-inch in width, and 2.3 inches in length. Expect the U.S. version to phase out the aging 2.5-liter five cylinder engine in favor of a new 1.8-liter turbo-four as well, along with a turbodiesel variant.

Even drivers who take precautions through proper maintenance can make damage-incurring mistakes. While safe driving practices and regular maintenance are the most reliable ways to protect your vehicle, the only way to foolproof your vehicle this winter is to exercise a little common sense.
Contrary to popular belief, this is not a good idea. Letting your car run idle to raise the temperature is the most inefficient method to heat your car. It also wastes gas, and it can overwhelm your car’s catalytic converter, which needs high exhaust temperatures to work properly. If you consistently leave your engine idling in cold temperatures for long periods of time, your converter can become “plugged” which will lead to poor gas mileage and dirtier exhaust.
Also, unless you have a garage, leaving your engine running as a way to heat your car generally means that you will be leaving your car unattended. This is not a good idea for the obvious reason that if someone wants to steal your car, the thief will have easy access and a warm ride to the nearest chop shop.
During cold winter weather, the air inside your gas tank can become moist, which can crystallize and freeze. Keeping a full tank of gas means less air and less chance of frozen fuel lines. If it’s inconvenient to keep your tank full, keep a fuel deicer on hand to add to the gas tank. Either way, it’s best to be prepared. You don’t want to be late for work because you’re waiting for your fuel lines to thaw.
Many novice car owners have walked outside during the coldest days of winter only to be perplexed by a sheet of ice that has enshrouded a vehicle. But don’t reach for the kettle because pouring hot or boiling water over an iced windshield can actually cause your windshield to break. This is because the rapid change in temperature for the glass — from freezing cold to scalding hot — causes the glass to expand and contract too quickly, leading to fractures. Instead, use an ice scraper. If you find yourself unprepared, grab a CD, a CD case, a spatula, or a credit card to scrape away that ice.
Colder weather means compressed air, which means lower tire pressure. Relying on emergency lights or visibly low tires as clues to keep your tire pressure in check can be dangerous, especially for those who commute long distances to work. Tire pressure must be monitored throughout the winter, as every 10 degree drop in temperature reduces the pressure in your tires by one pound per square-inch (PSI). Keep a pressure gauge and a portable air pump in the trunk to administer on-the-spot tire pressure maintenance.
