A Pleasant Experience in a Difficult Situation

I recently purchased a policy with the help of Karen. I was under close time restraints and it was extremely important that I handle things quickly as the State of NH required I acquire an SR-22. Karen handled things excellently and was a huge help. I was having phone issues and had to do all communication through email. Karen responded quickly and repeatedly, answering every question and concern I had. A majority of the time she helped me was over the weekend as well. Throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday she stayed in contact with me and helped to overcome several difficulties. This left me with a very pleasant experience despite a very difficult situation. I cannot express how much I appreciate(d) that. I have worked in customer service and understand how directly this reflects upon your company to a potential customer. I certainly intend on spreading word of mouth regarding my positive experience.  I requested Karen direct me to a survey or to someone that I could inform of the huge help she provided; to which she responded giving me your email address.  Thank you for your time. -Mike in New Hampshire

How Insurers Determine Your Auto Insurance Premium

When it comes to purchasing auto insurance, knowing the factors that influence premium can help you get the best coverage at a competitive price.

Most states generally require owners of vehicles to purchase coverage. By paying premium on an automobile insurance policy, you relying on an insurance company to cover the costs, minus the deductible, should you or your vehicle be involved in an accident. Automobile insurance can also cover damages to your car from exposures including theft, weather and vandalism.

To be competitive, insurers charge the most reasonable premium possible to attract and keep customers while assuring they can pay future claim costs.

When shopping around, you might notice insurers charge different premiums for the same coverage. These quotes reflect how each insurer uses its own “secret sauce” to determine the potential riskiness of a policyholder and his or her covered vehicle(s).

For insurers, all secret sauces are based on a proprietary blend of statistics, other data and assumptions. To predict the likelihood and seriousness of potential claims, insurers vary on both the factors they use and how much emphasize to give them.

These factors are:

1. Your driving record and experience

Driving records are obvious indicators of potential risk and are generally given greater emphasis than other factors.

Your driving record is a history of violations, convictions and collisions. The fewer violations, the lower the premium. Your record also indicates a lack of experience. Since new and inexperienced drivers are more likely to be in an accident, coverage costs more. The good news is that insurers honor records that improve over time.

2. Your age

People younger than 25 years old are considered inexperienced drivers with a greater accident potential. For some insurers, the age factor is about the same for the 26 to 65 age range. Since senior citizens tend to have more accidents, their rates tend to be higher.

3. Your gender

Insurers see inexperienced and younger male drivers as a greater risk than their female counterparts. While the distinction for younger drivers is shrinking, it is still significant. For experienced drivers, female drivers are also considered less risky, but insurers do not see gender differences as significant.

4. Your station in life

Statistics show that married drivers are less likely to crash than those who are single. Mothers are also considered to be safer drivers. Singles can improve their premiums with a fantastic individual driving record.

5. How much you drive

Insurance is based on the concept of exposure. That is, the more you drive, the more likely you will be in a car accident.  So if you drive your car “to work,” which insurers generally define as driving more than 15,000 miles a year, you pay more for greater exposure to potential car accidents. When driving for “pleasure use,” which generally less than 15,000 miles annually, premium should be lower.

Drivers in highly populated areas have higher auto insurance premiums due to greater traffic exposure. That’s why urban drivers pay a higher auto insurance price than those in small towns or rural areas.

Insurers also know that most accidents occur within a couple miles of places where people drive frequently. That includes your home and places you run errands, such as shopping malls and grocery stores. What insurers do not know is how often you make these trips.

That’s where telematics come in. For drivers who agree to have special equipment installed in their car, insurers can monitor how many short trips are being made and other driving behavior. Insurers including Progressive and State Farm are offering “usage based” programs that give good drivers up to double-digit percentage reductions of their auto insurance bills.

6. Location. Location. Location.

Where you park your car is also telling of potential auto insurance claims. By definition, the less criminal activity, the safer the neighborhood and the less likely you will file a claim for vandalism or theft. ZIP codes can be another factor, though some insurers are “clustering” locations with similar risk in different cities.

Besides where you drive and park your car, insurers also look at the actual cost for covering claims in your area. Medical and car repair bills can cost more in some locations. Areas that are heavily litigious, known for a greater prevalence of insurance fraud and are vulnerable to extreme weather can also impact potential costs.

7. Gaps in insurance coverage

Most auto insurers consider drivers with gaps in their auto insurance coverage as potentially riskier to insure than drivers who have consistently maintained coverage.

8. Your credit score

Research shows there is a correlation between credit characteristics, as reflected in credit-based insurance scores, and insurance losses. Statistically, people who have a poor insurance credit score are more likely to file a claim.

Most insurers are using credit-based insurance scores as a factor in determining the risk of policyholders. These scores are based on information including: payment history, bankruptcies, collections, outstanding debt, length of credit history, new credit and credit risk. Regular, on-time credit card and mortgage payments affect a score positively, while late payments affect a score negatively.

9. Your vehicle(s)

Basically, the more it costs to repair or replace your car, the higher the premiums. Fully loaded sports cars, for example, are more likely to get stolen. Common family cars can also be targets to thieves who want to sell parts.

Vehicles that have favorable crash safety test scores are likely to cost less to insure. Engine sizes, even among the same makes and models, can also impact insurance premiums.

If you are driving an old car or junker that will not require replacement, you can opt out of comprehensive and collision coverage for it. If you do, however, replacement costs will be your responsibility.

10. Other Coverage You Purchase

Most insurers provide discounts if you also purchase other types insurance from them. Typically, this includes umbrella, homeowners or renters coverage.

11. Your coverage and deductible.

Of course, the more insurance you buy, the more it costs. To reduce premiums, you can offer to share the cost per claim by agreeing to a deductible. The higher the deductible, the more you save in premiums.

Just determine how much money you can afford to pay when filing a claim – generally $500 or $1,000 – and your insurer will adjust your premium accordingly. Also be sure if you need add-ons such as vehicle rental coverage. If your family can get by with a second car or you are a member of organizations like AAA, you may not need it.

Conclusion

When you think about it, the factors that insurers consider are common sense and/or statistically proven to predict the likelihood and cost of potential claims. The factors you can control, such as having a stellar driving record, maintaining coverage and responsibly paying your bills are some of the best ways to keep your car insurance costs at bay.

Vehicle Insurance Facts To Remember Always

Introduction to car Insurance

The thought of car insurance premiums do often make motorists cringe- because of exorbitant nature that insurance for vehicles have become. Consequently, high premiums in recent years is a major determining factor. The last decade has seen the steady rise of premiums nationwide at an alarming rate that getting a cheap premium is getting more difficult by the day- without concerted efforts. No matter how pricy car insurance premiums can be- they are still vital for driving any vehicle on the road.

Why we need car insurance policy

Motor insurance policy is considered mandatory for every motorist in most countries. In the UK for instance, the law enforcement agencies are always on the prowl to enforce drivers have valid insurance policies for the cars they use. The major advantages of being adequately covered are::

Coverage against claims from motorists or passengers looking to exercise legal obligation against a policy holder that is the major cause of an accident in which losses and or damages occurred as a result.

Secondly, it is against the law in the UK to drive a vehicle without a valid insurance cover- offenders can have endorsements on their licence, get a fine, be disqualified from driving, or even imprisoned for severe and unique cases.

Risk for not having a valid insurance policy

Do not drive a vehicle which you do not have a valid insurance policy on. Below are some of the risks you face for driving without an insurance policy:

  • Endorsements are points added to your licence for breaking any of the road traffic offenses- this also not having an insurance cover to drive a particular vehicle- endorsements can also hinder one’s inability to work for an organisation that requires a clean licence.
  • It’s common for persistent offenders to get couple of months or even several years ban for not having an insurance policy on the car they drive.
  • Offenders do get minimal or massive fines which will depend on how severe the offense might be- some offence may carry up to a maximum fine of £3000 if it endangers life or property.
  • There have been known cases of prolific offenders doing time for the amount of damage they’ve caused as a result of not having a policy.

What to look out for when choosing a policy

It can easily become overwhelming for new drivers attempting to get an insurance policy for the very first time. New drivers usually find it difficult to comprehend the terms or wording of their policy document- experienced drivers would be in a better position to interpret it in a simpler language for them. Nevertheless, there are still important things to consider in a policy before even considering to buy it. Below are a few important ones to look at:

  • What level of cover would be suitable for your situation? the three basic level of cover include- third party, third party cover and theft and comprehensive policy.
  • Your level of excess is a major determining factor on your premium- the higher your excess, the lower your premium respectively
  • If your premiums are unaffordable then it’s time to keep on comparing quotes until you find a cheaper and much more affordable quote.
  • Your policy contains special conditions which you must comply with to avoid breaching any clause in the policy- for instance, does your policy allow for you to drive other cars? Does your policy cover you for driving in other European countries? Is break-down cover included in your policy?

Five ways to obtain low-cost quotes from insurers

Apparently, there is no cheapest car insurance provider. Basically, there are overwhelming variables that can influence the cost of vehicle insurance coverage: who you are, what you do for a living, where you live, the type of car you drive and your driving history, all contribute to what insurers use to determine the amount of premium you pay for your policy. You are now compelled to get the most affordable motor insurance deal possible by:

  • Acquiring a car that falls within a low insurance group. Some examples of cars within the low insurance group bracket includes: Vauxhall Corsa, Fiat Punto and Nissan Micra because of their small engine sizes. Obviously, the bigger the engine size of the vehicle the more power it generates and the higher the insurance premium.
  • Increasing your excess levels would decrease your premium but exercise due caution when setting your level of excess because, the amount you state on your quote form is required of you in the event of an accident. Stick with an amount that you are comfortable with and avoid pledging an amount you cannot pay out in the event of an accident.
  • Parking your vehicle in a garage overnight can help lower your premium. Reducing the risk for break-ins, theft, fire and criminal damage for the insurers will enable you get cheaper premiums from your insurance company.
  • Install security systems like alarms, immobilizer and even trackers.
  • Shop around, compare quotes, use car insurance comparison sites like www.cheapcarinsurancex.org/ to compare over 110 insurance companies from selected low cost insurers.

Where to get discounts for your premium

Different Car Insurance Rates Among Different States

If you were to compare car insurance rates by state you’d find that similar drivers with similar vehicles pay different rates depending on the state where they live. This is one of the curious aspects of car insurance a lot of people don’t understand. That misunderstanding comes by way of the fact that so many drivers think of cheap car insurance as a static product similar to a computer or television set. By “static” we mean a product that comes off a production line and is identical among all pieces of the same line.

The thing about car insurance is that it’s not static. For example, two different drivers may both have collision and comprehensive coverage on their vehicles but pay different rates for it. This makes complete sense when you consider one driver owns a BMW while the other driver owns a Kia. The values of their respective vehicles heavily influence the cost of their collision and comprehensive insurance.

United States of America

United States of America

In terms of the various states, here are a couple of things that influence auto insurance quotes:

State Laws – Far and away the biggest influence on cheap auto insurance at the state level comes by way of insurance regulations. A state where insurance is heavily regulated to the point that it chokes out competition will see higher car insurance costs. Other regulatory conditions that contribute to annual premiums include minimum liability requirements, taxes and fees, how the state’s high risk pools are funded, and how traffic violations are dealt with.

Population Density – Population density is another big factor at the state level. States with high population densities such as California and Massachusetts have the potential for higher insurance rates because there are more drivers on the road to cause accidents.

Accident Rates – The different states experience different accident rates depending on a whole host of factors. Weather, average driver age, road conditions, and economic conditions all play a part in influencing accident rates. Like population density, a state with a higher rate of accidents per capita will see that reflected in car insurance quotes.

Job Outlook – Believe it or not insurance statistics show a greater propensity for insurance claims among specific occupations. Insurance companies can look at those statistics from one state to the next and partially determine rates of accident claims based on occupation and income levels.

Suffice it to say there are a number of things at the state level that contribute to how much you and I pay for insurance. When you’re searching for car insurance quotes, it’s best not to about worry what your cousin and his neighbor are paying two states away. Your state is what it is and that’s not likely to change. By the same token, if you’re thinking of moving to another state and you’re not restricted in your choices, taking into account the likelihood you’ll be able to find cheap car insurance may be a factor in your decision.

Most teens are ready and eager to hit the open road, but there’s a lot of consideration that needs to go into making sure your teen is safe and insured properly for any circumstance that may arise. Teenagers and younger drivers are hands-down the most accident prone demographic on the road: They crash more, seem to think less, and tend to engage in more risky behaviors, like drinking and driving or texting while behind the wheel. You want your teen to be safe, and you also want them to be taken care of by your insurance plan.

Knowing the insurance company that can offer you the cheapest quote is like finding a niddle in a haystack. Good number ways you can find discover these elusive low cost quotes will be to minimize your perceived risk factor to the insurance company and compare insurers.

There are so many insurance packages that insurance companies offer to motorist, the package you request would depend on the quote form you’re given, typical examples are: quotes for http://www.cheapcarinsurancex.org/cheap-car-insurance/student, www.cheapcarinsurancex.org/cheap-car-insurance/green + green car insurance, get pay as you go car insurance at www.cheapcarinsurancex.org/cheap-car-insurance/short-term/pay-as-you-go and many more.

Conclusion

Driving whilst under insurance protection is a lot cheaper than driving without one: The consequence of not having an insurance policy on the car you drive can be quiet costly when involved in an accident. Examples of risk motorists face for not having appropriate insurance cover on their vehicle includes- the risk of their cars been seized or destroyed by local authorities, fines, claims from other third parties and so on.

On the other hand, insuring your vehicle only gives you peace of mind and away from trouble. Always make sure you insure your car with at least the most basic level of cover before you drive on the road.

Lenders told to reopen 2.5m PPI compensation claims

City watchdog suspects many customers were rejected or paid too little, and concluded that many were treated unfairly

Banks and other lenders have been ordered to reopen more than 2.5m com plaints about payment protection insurance (PPI) because the City watchdog suspects many customers were either rejected or paid too little in compensation. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) said that in 2012 and 2013 the share of PPI complaints decided in customers' favour by lenders dropped. It concluded that some claimants were treated unfairly.

The regulator's intervention is a further blow to the financial industry's reputation. Banks and other lenders sold about 45 million PPI policies between 1990 and 2010. The policies sold with loans and credit cards to protect customers against non-payment if they became ill or unemployed were worth £44bn to the sellers. But in many cases the insurance either was not needed, failed to pay out or customers did not even know they were paying for it.

Top Insurance Tips to Protecting Your Car While Tailgating

Now that we are finally in the wondrous glow of football season, it's time to get out there and see your favorite team in action. But, if you are the type who likes to spend your days (or mornings) tailgating, make sure you are prepared before making your way to the stadium — and I don't just mean bringing enough hamburger patties for the crew, either. Below, you'll find a few helpful tips to make sure you, your vehicle, and your insurance policy are ready:

Make Sure You Have the Proper Coverage

One of the most common mistakes tailgaters make when heading out to the big game is not having the proper coverage for their vehicular pride and joy. Certain policies don't cover non-driving accidents, or personal property stolen from your vehicle. Remember, crashes aren't the only things that can cause significant damage to your car. Even an errant "Hail Mary" from one of your buddies can dent a fender or bust out a window. Also, leaving the game in bumper-to-bumper traffic often results in fender benders and collisions, so make sure your car is has enough coverage in the event you are in an accident leaving the game, too.

Burn Your Hotdogs, Not Your Car

Nothing ruins a day at the stadium quite like watching your trusty tailgate-mobile go up in flames. With that mental image still fresh in your mind, make sure to keep your grill (no matter the size) a safe distance from your car. Lastly, before packing up, make sure all charcoals and embers have gone out (and disposed of properly), and that the grill has had time to cool before you decide to pack it away in the back of your car. And finally, always bring a fire extinguisher, just in case things do go horribly wrong.

Don't Leave Valuables in You Vehicle

So, you've finished your tailgate and are ready to make your way into the stadium for kickoff. But before you go, make sure you have all your valuables on your person, or safely locked in the trunk or glove box. Parking lots are notorious targets for car break-ins and theft, even if the lot is well patrolled. Some auto insurance policies won't cover personal items that are left inside the car, so that's another reason to tote your stuff along or just leave it at home. Lastly, don't forget to lock your car before you rush off to get to the stadium.

Use Common Sense

Beyond big things like not burning your car down to the ground and getting your stuff stolen, there are a number of little things that are easy to forget during you tailgate experience that can result in headaches and frustration. When it comes to indulging and food and drinks, keep them away from your vehicle. Spending time cleaning your favorite pre-game meal out of, or off, your car is no way to spend your pregame. Also, if you plan on running any electronic devices off of your vehicle, or if you plan on using your vehicle's stereo system to jam to your "classic" Jock Jams CD, make sure to bring a pair of jumper cables along in case you run down your battery while pumping up the tunes. And, if you are brave enough to tailgate at an opponent's stadium, make sure not to put too many giant, obnoxious logos of your hometown team on your vehicle, or else you may fall victim to the wrath of an overzealous fan(s).

Don't Drink and Drive

One of the fastest ways to increase your car insurance premium – or even severely injure yourself, your passengers, and others – is to drink and drive. Even if you just get caught leaving the stadium after a few too many drinks, you could be looking at thousands of dollars in fines, not to mention the possibility of losing your license.

New DUI Laws in South Carolina

A tougher DUI bill that supporters say would save lives recently passed in the South Carolina Senate. The bill requires drivers convicted of a first-offense DUI with a blood alcohol level of .12 or above to install ignition interlocks on their cars. The bill passed by a vote of 41-0 just after 6 o’clock Wednesday evening. The state currently requires the interlocks for drivers upon a second or subsequent DUI. A driver is considered legally drunk with a blood alcohol level of .08, so this bill is targeting what are called “high-BAC” drivers. Ignition interlocks are small devices installed on cars and they require the driver to blow into them before starting the car. If the device detects alcohol of .02 or more, the car won’t start. The interlocks that would be used include a camera, to make sure that the person who is blowing into the device is the driver who’s required to have it. This bill would strengthen the penalties for not installing the interlocks.  Now, a first offense has a fine of $300, jail from 10 to 30 days, or both. Under the bill, a first offense for not having an interlock would be a fine of at least $500, 90 days in jail or six months home detention, and an extension of six months for requiring an ignition interlock. But it’s the repeat offenders who would really be hit hard. Now, a third or subsequent offense for not having a required interlock is a $1,000 fine and jail up to 90 days, or home detention from 90 days to six months. Under the bill, a third or subsequent offense would be a felony, with a fine of at least $5,000, prison up to 10 years or home detention for three years, and extending the required use of an ignition interlock by three years. The offenders would have to pay to install the devices on their vehicles. Ignition interlock manufacturers say they cost about $100 a month, but there’s an additional charge of $30 a month, which will provide interlocks for those drivers who can prove they can’t afford them, despite being able to afford a car, gas and SR-22 insurance.   Source: http://burrisslaw.com

Bristan shower pump warranty issue creates a cascade of woe

We took out an extended policy with D&G but our claim for a faulty Bristan pump was rejected

In 2011, we had a new power shower pump installed. The pump was made by Bristan, and at the time we were sent a letter by the company offering to extend the warranty until April this year. We did so, paying £39 for a BristanCare policy, supplied by Domestic & General.

In February this year, the pump failed so I called the number on the care plan. After some time, I was told that I should not have been sold the BristanCare policy in the first place, as it does not cover shower pumps. The only compensation I was offered was the return of the premium.

What commercial van insurance can I choose for my vehicles?

If your van is mainly for commercial purpose of doing business then you’ll be required to get a commercial van insurance. The objective of a commercial van insurance cover is for the protection of your van with any content that may be included inside, it also covers your business against any eventualities that may occur in future.

To keep your business healthy and profitable, you must ensure that your business overheads are kept to a minimum by reducing all expenses charged to the business. This also entails looking for a cheap van insurance cover for your vans. Purchasing the cheapest insurance possible will save you money initially but remember that your business could lose out substantially if you don’t have the correct type of cover, so analysis your insurance needs carefully before agreeing on a policy.

Most insurance cover are quiet dependent on a number of factors to determine whether it suits your purpose or not. Criteria like the type of vehicle your insuring, it’s capacity, the term of the policy and most importantly the kind of services you’ll be rendering with your van.- http://www.cheapestvaninsurance.org/

Most insurance firms provide insurance cover for different organizations that ranges from big organizations, private firms and even sole proprietors. And the caliber of cover they provide also ranges from one organization to the other. There are 3 major range of insurance coverage you can expect from most insurance companies; they include third party commercial insurance policy, third party fire and theft cover and fully comprehensive cover.

The fully comprehensive insurance coverage is for the protection of every eventualities perhaps that’s why it’s the most cumbersome and most expensive policy you can buy. This kind of insurance policy insures the liability for loss of life or personal injury to any individual in the van as well as protecting any kind of destruction to the property of the other party.

Apart from the protections mentioned earlier, comprehensive policies does also covers damages to your van as well as third party’s vehicle. In addition, accidents, fire and theft, vandalism are also covered as well as being provided a courtesy van when your van’s being repaired. If you store tools in your van subsequently it is really worth confirming that these will also be protected by your comprehensive insurance coverage.

Third party fire and theft Insurance policy will protect any kind of loss as well as damages induced by a third party, specifically criminal damage, car accident, fire, theft or burglary. It is worth observing that this particular kind of insurance coverage would certainly not protect you if your van was damaged by a motorist who did not possess insurance policy.

The last and final insurance cover is the third party commercial cover. Often the least expensive out of the entire three policies and also very basic or simple cover, it protects your van against damages caused to a third party only. Third party policy cover do not often cover against business vans. So, if your involved in an accident then you will be personally responsible for the cost of repairing the third party’s vehicle.

If you have an aged van or do not feel that your van is not worth very much then you can take out a third party commercial van insurance coverage to satisfy your legal responsibility of getting your van covered.

Irrespective of the way you use your business van, you could also customize your policy with additional features and add on provided by your insurance providers, for instance, policies that offer you the benefit of driving other cars or driving abroad and most importantly legal expenses cover.

How to Live Out of Your Car

Most homeless people will tell you that there are two classes of homelessness: with car and without a car. If you are homeless, but still own a car, you may find yourself relying on it as a temporary shelter until you get back on your feet. Some cities have safe-parking programs that allow a person living in their car to park and sleep in a designated parking lot without fear of being hassled. However, more programs like this are needed if we, as a nation, genuinely wish to help the 3.5 million Americans who, according to the National Coalition of the Homeless, experience homelessness each year. Here are six tips for living out of your car if you are otherwise homeless.

  1. Find a place to park

Finding a place to discreetly park your car so that you can rest is tricky, since the laws regarding parking on private or public property and sleeping in your vehicle vary from state to state. If there is no safe-parking program in your city, church parking lots, 24-hour shopping centers, and neighborhoods where you can park not in front of a home, but in between a residential and business property, are all potentially safe and discreet places for you to park and sleep. Parking consistently in the same spot or neighborhood will draw attention, so try to locate several places where you can park on any given night.

  2. Truck stops, rest stops, and Walmart stores

For the weary traveler, a truck stop, rest stop, or a Pilot Travel Center are all safe, cost-free places to park and sleep. Chain truck and rest stops are well-lit and staffed with 24-hour security, and provide an oasis of amenities for the weary traveler, including showers and laundry facilities. Most, but not all, Walmart stores allow RVs and other vehicles to park overnight in their parking lots. Be sure to check with a store's manager in advance before parking and bedding down for the night.

  3. Using a car cover

Consider using a car cover if you are unable to park at a truck stop or Walmart. A car cover will help you to remain discreet wherever you park and provide you with the privacy you need in order to rest and sleep. However, a car cover may draw the attention of thieves, who will assume that underneath it is an expensive car. And while a car cover is helpful for additional warmth in winter weather, in the summer, it will turn the inside of your car into an oven.

  4. Keep your car clean

After a day or two of sleeping in your car, your car will start to stink. Try just barely cracking the windows before you go to sleep in order to keep the air inside fresh and circulating. Clean the interior and exterior of your car regularly, at a local car wash if you can afford it, just as you would if you were not homeless.

  5. Keep yourself clean

Keeping clean and looking presentable when you're homeless is challenging, but absolutely crucial if you hope to find or maintain a job. Truck and rest stops usually have showers for travelers, but using one will cost you $7 to $10. Public beaches, pools, or community centers are all places where you can grab a quick shower for free. Wet Ones can be a surprisingly refreshing and thorough way to clean yourself up if you don't have access to running water or a shower.

  6. Stay safe

Be smart about where you park your car; avoid sketchy neighborhoods, and try to park near or under a street lamp. While inside your car, make sure all four doors are always locked. If someone tries to break into your car unaware that you are inside asleep, you can almost always scare them off by honking your car horn.
