Your biggest wastes of money

Buying flashy cars and not planning for the future are just a couple of mistakes people make with their finances.

Unfortunately, there is quite a gap between what people would like to do with their money and what they actually do. For many, buying a house, taking trips with family or even retiring may present difficulties if drastic changes aren’t made in spending and saving habits.

Financial planning is vital for attaining realistic goals. Investing for the future should be a regular habit.

Here are some common financial mistakes that people make.

Not paying bills on time

Many people look at credit cards as a means to improve their lifestyle. So the end of the month rolls around and you receive that dreaded envelope in the post from your credit card company.

If you've ever paid a bill late, you will have probably noticed that you're charged a fine.

Brushing aside your bill or ignoring it all together could be detrimental to your credit rating and cost you more through the interest payments.

Trying to make an impression

Just because your neighbour has a flashy new TV, doesn’t mean you need to get one.

Buying for status is perhaps one of the worst financial mistakes. There is no evidence to prove that impressing others with a fancy car can make you happier. In fact, the debt you take on while acquiring these assets could prove to be costly. Never think about what others have as there are financial consequences of buying more than you need.

Overusing credit cards

Time and time again cards are used to purchase the smallest of things – from a loaf of bread to a packet of crisps.

The cost of the items you have charged becomes the purchase price plus interest. Before you know it, you’ll have filled the car up with petrol, bought a new duvet cover and have acquired the entire Monty Python DVD box set. Next time you make impulsive purchases, ask yourself if what you are buying is worth the interest.

Not planning for the future

Taking control of your spending and managing your money can help pave the way to achieving financial goals.

Failure to plan ahead can be a result of inexperience or may even be attributed to ignorance and fear. Although you may not want to face the future, it is just around the corner and without significant planning, you will find life much more difficult.

Lack of life insurance and health insurance could leave you in a difficult situation if problems were to arise. After all, life insurance is an asset for an individual.

Acting as a guarantor

Those of you with good credit may sometimes be tempted to guarantee a tenancy agreement or mortgage for a friend or family member with a history of financial problems.

But be prepared for what this implies. When you guarantee a mortgage or tenancy agreement, you’re taking on a risk that a professional lender or letting agent won’t take. If they can’t repay the debt, then you will be responsible for it. You may be better off staying away from playing the sugar daddy or a good Samaritan and keep your financial records on track.

Thrifty Car and Van Rental announce charity partners

Thrifty Car and Van Rental has announced which local and national charities it is to support this year; and the lucky two are the NSPCC and Hospiscare. Thrifty has pledged to do what it can to raise as much money as possible throughout 2012 via a wide range of activities including dress down days, raffles and even donating £1 for every rental which goes through its website. Once all donations and money raised have been totted up, the final total will be split equally between the two charities.

Linda Paul, Director of Central Services for Thrifty Car and Van Rental said;

‘Everybody will be getting into the charitable spirit this year by taking part in dress down days and holding raffles. We hope to raise a significant amount of money which will make a huge difference to everyone involved with and benefiting from Hospiscare and the NSPCC.’

Hospiscare is delighted to have been chosen by Thrifty especially because, as a local charity, its profile isn’t as high as some other better known causes. Marc Astley, Hospiscare’s PR and Marketing Officer said;

‘Thrifty has been a wonderful partner and we are extremely grateful they have continued to support our charity. Not only have they raised lots of money, they have also supplied Hospiscare with a number of vehicles to help transport donated items to our chain of shops across Devon.’

Geraldine Harman, NSPCC’s Corporate Business Manager said their charity is equally as delighted to be receiving the much-needed support from Thrifty;

‘Without the support of companies such as Thrifty we simply wouldn’t be able to continue to run our services to help those children affected by abuse and neglect. We can’t wait to hear about the company’s fundraising events as we work closely with them throughout the year.’

Top 10 Stolen Cars in the USA

Every year, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) compiles a list of the most frequently stolen cars in the United States. Year after year, the list is surprising to those who are not familiar with car theft. I will count down the top 10 in just a moment, but I like to point out a couple of interesting observations before I start.

First, late-model cars do not tend to be stolen as frequently as older cars, and this for a variety of reasons. They are easy to come by, replacement parts are readily available, and anti-theft devices (including keypad access) take longer to breach.

Second, older cars may be stolen even if they look like moving wrecks. To understand why this is the case, just read through my top 10 list. You will understand by the time you are done. With that said, here is the list of the top 10 stolen cars in the USA:

10. Nissan Sentra (1994) – The 1994 Sentra was the last of the third-generation of this line. It was also the first to feature Nissan’s now famous SR20DE engine that made it the fastest subcompact of its day. The car sold very well in Mexico, the Philippines, and other markets.

9. Ford Explorer (2002) – The Ford Explorer was completely redesigned for the 2002 model year. As the first in the third-generation of Explorers, the biggest difference with the 2002 was the introduction of independent suspension.

8. Dodge Ram Pickup (2004) – As part of the third-generation of Dodge Ram pickups, the 2004 models sold very well in the retail market. The third-generation face-lift made the truck look more rugged and durable, so thieves who steal these vehicles are looking for grills, headlights, and rims.

7. Chevy Silverado Pickup (1999) – Silverado was the name given to Chevy’s full-size pickups bearing a specific trim package from 1975 through 1999. Without that trim package, they were simply designated with letters and numbers. In either case, they have been among the best-selling pickup trucks of all time.

6. Acura Integra (1994) – Believe it or not, the Acura Integra is actually just a Honda with a different name. The company made the car from 1985 through 2006 in Japan. It is not uncommon to still see these cars on the road today.

5. Dodge Caravan (2000) – In 1994 Chrysler introduced a brand-new vehicle to the market: the minivan. The 2000 Caravan was the last in the third series and sported a brand-new look and a beefed-up, six-cylinder EGH engine.

4. Toyota Camry (1991) – The Camry is probably Toyota’s most defining vehicle to date. It put the company on the map when it was first introduced in 1982. The 1991 model was the first in the second series and introduced a wider body and sleeker look.

3. Ford Pickup – Full-Size (2006) – Ford has always been a good competitor when it comes to full-size pickups. Their F-series is constantly doing battle with Chevy for market dominance.

2. Honda Civic (1998) – The Civic is easily Honda’s best-selling car in North America. It been continually produced since 1972 and is now in its ninth generation. The 1998 model was part of the sixth generation and was primarily focused on sleeker looks and an upgraded suspension.

1994 Honda Accord

1. Honda Accord (1994) – Honda began production of the accord in 1976. Since its introduction, it has been one of the best-selling vehicles in North America. The car made history in 1982 as the first Japanese product made on American soil.

So, have you figured out what most of these cars have in common? D you know why they continue to be among the most stolen cars in the United States?

The two things most of them have in common are their ages and the fact you still see so many of them on the road both in the U.S. and in Mexico. They are appealing to thieves because owners need replacement parts yet aftermarket parts are no longer manufactured in large quantities. When thieves steal these cars, they do not intend to sell them whole. They strip them down and sell the parts on the black market.

Even if the body of one of these cars looks a little rough, it would still have value to a thief as long as things like the taillights, wheels, and interior components were still in good condition. Those things are hard to find at auto parts stores and junk yards.

The best and worst PIN numbers

Do you have one of the most predictable PIN numbers in the world? If so, your cash could be at risk.

I’m going to try to guess your PIN number… is it 1234? According to new research, there is a pretty good chance I’m right. If I were a criminal who had stolen your card, I could be emptying your account right now.

Shockingly, research by technology consultancy Data Genetics has found that almost 11% of the population chooses this number – with 1111 and 0000 being the second and third most popular options.

Not surprisingly, fraudsters have a pretty easy time cracking such predictable codes and the data reveals that it is possible to guess 10% of PINs in just one attempt.

In contrast, the random (and far less memorable) collection of numbers 8068 is the least common PIN – though there’s a pretty good chance that will change now this research has been published.

In order to conduct the research, Data Genetics looked at the details of 3.4 million four-digit passwords that have been leaked via security breaches.

Although these codes are computer passwords, the study assumes that most people will use a similar set of numbers for their PINs.

Here are the 10 most common choices according to the data:

1. 1234

2. 1111

3. 0000

4. 1212

5. 7777

6. 1004

7. 2000

8. 4444

9. 2222

10. 6969

Source: Data Genetics

The least common PINs

Of course, not every PIN is so easy to guess. If there is no obvious pattern, it stands to reason that it will be more difficult to guess.

Here are the 10 least common:

1. 8068

2. 8093

3. 9629

4. 6835

5. 7637

6. 0738

7. 8398

8. 6793

9. 9480

10. 8957

Source: Data Genetics

How we choose our PIN

Many people appear to opt for significant dates such as birthdays and anniversaries as codes beginning with the numbers 19 feature highly in the list.

Fans of George Orwell don’t appear overly concerned that Big Brother will guess their PIN – 1984 is the 26th most common choice. Likewise, fans of James Bond could possibly be using their PIN as a way to pay homage to their hero as 0007 is the 23rd most popular choice.

Keeping your PIN safe

Fortunately there are a number of things you can do to keep your PIN safe.

Avoid the obvious:

As well as the codes mentioned on the list above, stay clear of having your date of birth, your children’s birthdays or a wedding anniversary.

In fact, try to keep it random – even the most scatterbrained individual can probably remember four numbers.

Keep it secret

Although you might be tempted to share your PIN with friends or family, this could leave you thousands of pounds out of pocket. If you were the victim of fraud and your bank discovered you had shared your PIN details, it might refuse to refund your money.

Take care at the cash machine

In order to steal PIN details, fraudsters place hidden devices and cameras in ATMs. Although these can be almost impossible to detect, it’s wise to avoid any cash point that appears to have been damaged or vandalised.

Remember, a bank will never ask for details of your PIN number over the phone. If someone calls claiming to be from your bank and asks for this information, you’re probably speaking to a fraudster.

When Should Parents Consider Child and Car Safety?

Keeping kids safe in the car is a concern for every parent.

Keeping kids safe in the car is a concern for every parent. (image by babble.com)

If someone asked us when parents should consider and begin to practice child safety as it relates to cars, we’d answer that these things should start before their child is even born.

This may sound strange, but as any mother will tell you, the impact from a child begins months before birth. Thus, our answer to the previous question. Since mothers are carrying unborn children for the gestation period, child safety is impacted by the mother’s safety.

While expectant mothers are undergoing physical changes to their bodies, such as the expansion in their abdomens and widening of their hips in the first trimester — changes that continue for all 40 weeks they’ll carry their child — we suggest the same for them as we would any other driver. Wearing their seat belts.

We’ve heard the myth that seat belts endanger the lives of the unborn, but it’s just that — a myth, as long as seat belts are worn properly. That means expectant mothers should wear their seat belts, with the lap belt should be across her hips and below her belly, and the shoulder belt should be across her chest, between the breasts.

Car Seat Installation

With the new arrival of a bundle of joy, we shift from the safety of the mother to the child itself. It may be easy to think that installing a car seat is a simple matter. Put the child seat in the car, insert child, and we’re done, right?

Not so fast. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) says 75% of car seats are installed and/or used incorrectly. Fortunately, many hospitals have Child Passenger Safety (SPC) Technicians who can help parents of newborns properly install and secure their car seats.

But what do you do if you’re on your own? While the documentation and instructions included with the child seat is a good start, we think the NHTSA’s free child safety seatinspection centersare also worth the few minutes of time they’ll take to visit. These government-funded centers are based throughout the nation, and they’ll help to ensure a child seat is installed correctly, preferably using the LATCH system.

LATCH, or the Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children system, has been standard equipment on every car sold in the United States since 2002. All child seats produced since that time are also LATCH compliant. The system employs different sets ofÿanchors to be used with child restraints.

However, if you don’t have access to these resources then you’re left to install it yourself. With all the latches and straps installation may seem complicated. But don’t worry; we’ve got you covered below.

Installation for Infants

The primary role of a car seat for infants is to protect the head and neck, which are the most vulnerable to long-term complications in the event of a collision. There are two types of car seats for infants: rear-facing, infant-only; and convertible seats. Rear-facing, infant-only care seats are ideal for newborns but they become obsolete once the child grows to more than 20 pounds. When you’re installing your little one’s car seat we suggest you follow the steps outlined in the manufacturer’s instruction manual. However, here are some general tips that will help you properly secure your newborn. If you’re more of a visual learner you can watch installation videos provided by the NHTSA.

  • If you can move the car seat more than an inch then the straps aren’t tight enough. To get them tight enough we suggest you find a way to put your weight into the car seat and then pull the straps as hard as you can. It’s important that the seat moves as little as possible while you’re in transit.
  • Ensure the carrier straps are tight and the harness clip is even with your baby’s shoulders or armpits and the straps are in the slot that lines up close to the infant’s shoulders.
  • If your baby has some extra space in the seat you can place rolled receiving blankets or towels on each side to keep him or her from wobbling. Avoid placing anything under the harness straps.
  • Locking clips are necessary for some vehicles made before 1997. This is necessary because these vehicles don’t have seat belts that lock when the brakes are slammed, so the clip keeps belt from slipping if an accident occurs.
  • Your baby’s head should be at least two inches below the top of the safety seat and make sure the seat is set at a 30 to 45-degree angle.
  • You can see more tips at DMV.org or Kids Health.

Convertible seats, the alternative to rear-facing, infant-only seats, are designed so that they can be used by infants after they’re heavier than 20 pounds. When the baby reaches that weight the seat can be turned to face forward and it’s secured with three types of harnesses: T-shield, tray shield, and five-point. All of these types meet required safety standards, but the five-point harness is regarded as the best option since it can be tightened to fit snugly and it doesn’t get in the way of the baby’s head. When installing a convertible seat you should make sure all straps are as tight as possible to prevent it from wobbling.

Ages One to Three

While infants should always be placed in rear-facing car seats, once a child has reached at least one year of age and weighs at least 20 pounds they can utilize forward-facing child safety seats installed in the rear of the car. That being said, they’re safer in a rear-facing seat, so keep them in one for as long as possible.Forward-facing seats, like the ones that come before, should be installed using LATCH rather than seat belts, if possible. Here are some other tips:

  • If you’re installing a forward-facing seat make sure it’s set directly against the back and bottom of the car seat. When you’re installing the seat make sure to put weight on the seat to push it back as far as possible so the straps will be as tight as they can be.
  • Make sure the seat can’t move side to side or tip forward more than an inch. If it does then unbuckle it and try again.
  • If your car was made before 1996 then you’ll probably need to buy a locking clip to prevent the lap and shoulder seat belts from slipping.
  • Make sure the straps lie flat and tug on them to make sure they’re secure once your baby is fastened into the seat.
  • If you can pinch any of the harness material between your fingers then it’s too loose and needs to be adjusted.

Ages Four to Seven

There are no rear-facing car seats available for this age group, and we don’t know of any children of this age group that would be content to sit facing the rear of the car. So, once a child reaches age four, you’ll have no choice but to move to a forward-facing seat.

Keep a child in this age range in their child seat until they outgrow either the height or weight limits specified by the seat manufacturer. Once this happens, it’s time to switch to a booster seat.

Ages Eight to Twelve

Once a child reaches eight years of age or is at least 4’9” tall, they should be placed in booster seats. Most booster seats simply elevate the child’s seating position and enable them to use the standard seat belts on a car. LATCH is not required nor should it be used with booster seats.

At some point during this period, you’ll likely transition the child from booster seat to just using the standard seat belt of the automobile with no otherÿencumbrances. Make sure they’re wearing the belt properly, with the lap portionÿacross their upper thighs and the shoulder portion across their chest.

Other Considerations

We’ve heard lots of chatter regarding the so-called “combination seats.” These seats are marketed as being able to go from a rear facing infant seat to a forward facing toddler seat and then finally to a booster seat for older children. A testing study performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) found significant problemswith these combination seats.

Children should always ride in the back seat of a car, if possible, no matter if they’re in a car seat, a booster seat, or if they’re old enough to wear seat belts.ÿAll modern cars now have both driver side and passenger side front airbags, which are designed for full-sized adults. Airbags can injure or kill a child, and the back seat is simply the safest place in the car.

Finally, don’t assume that just because your child isn’t in a car that all auto-related dangers areÿabated. Child pedestrians are killed at a greater rate than any other age group. In fact, male children, aged 5 to 9 years old, are the largest group of pedestrians killed every year. Children can still fall victim to an automobile by darting into a road without looking or by playing on a street.

5 Tips to Get the Most for your Dollar at a Year-End Car Sale

sale

The week after Christmas, dealerships begin liquidating inventory to make way for the new models that will fill the lots during the new year. Dealerships pay a pretty penny to advertise these year-end events, so now more than ever, salesmen are prepared to turn visits into transactions. With the opportunity to make many different sales, the sales team has less pressure to keep ticket prices high, leaving consumers more room to haggle. Traditionally, December 27 through New Year’s Eve are the best days for consumers to secure a discount on a new car, but shopping at the end of the year comes with its own unique hurdles.

1. Be prepared for a little give and take

Year-end discounts actually begin during September, but vehicle discounts, like fine wines, only get better as the products age. For the savvy consumer, waiting until the end of the year can reap the biggest financial savings, but you must also be prepared to select from a limited inventory. Like many post-holiday clearance sales, the selection is likely to be a sparse collection of unpopular items, and in the case of vehicles, this means quirky paint jobs and fewer bells and whistles. For the consumer who is prepared for a little give and take, year-end sales can be ideal savings events.

2. Consider models that will become outdated in the new year

Although all vehicles undergo minor upgrades with the new year, major upgrades are made every four to five years. Models that are outdated with the New Year will be sold at larger discounts to make way for the upgraded models. Researching which models are receiving major upgrades can better prepare consumers to find a high-quality vehicle at a year-end sale, as opposed to those models that have been deemed unpopular. However, these high-quality models may still only be available in unusual colors or without upgraded features, so keep that in mind.

3. Bigger is better

Families who are searching for minivans, large sedans, or SUVs can find many discounted options at year-end clearance sales. Also, large pick-up trucks can often be found at closeout prices during these events, offering thousands of dollars in cash-back rebates. And it’s not just the size of your future vehicle that matters; when shopping end-of-the-year car sales, it’s also important to consider the size of the dealership. The larger the dealership, the larger the inventory will be. A larger inventory offers more of a selection to consumers, and it also places more pressure on the sales staff to clear the showroom floor.

4. Choose discounted financing over cash-back rebates

Before visiting a dealership, consumers should consult their banks or loan providers to establish a budget. Discounted financing options with low interest rates and reasonable payment plans generally offer consumers greater discounts than cash-back rebates. These rebates, however, may be necessary to pad the down payment and to otherwise qualify some shoppers for a loan. While discussing payment options, consumers will do well to focus on the final pay-off amount. Many dealerships will encourage consumers to stretch out their payment periods to afford more expensive vehicles, b consumers should be wary of extending payment periods, as this costs more in the long run.

5. Haggle and keep a close eye on the invoice

Hard-nosed hagglers will still walk away from the dealership with the best deals. Remember, it never hurts to ask for more. After all, dealerships will certainly try to stick you with more than you’re willing to pay. Keep a close eye on your invoice to identify any unnecessary extras, such as rust-proofing, fabric protection, or paint sealant. These little fees can certainly add up, and though they won’t cost you thousands, a few hundred dollars saved is well worth the extra attention.

Do You Want To Pay Cheaper Premium On Your Van Insurance Policy?

Investing in vans or similar vehicles has resulted in many businesses doubling or even tripling their profits because of the role these vehicles play. A current and valid insurance policy is a must have for all vehicles including vans irrespective of their shape, sizes and purpose of use.

Getting the right insurance coverage for a van can become extremely expensive for businesses, especially those requiring fleet insurance for their numerous vans. Finding an inexpensive van insurance premium can most times become a daunting task if you do not know how and where to find it- below are great tips you can adopt when searching for low- cost van insurance premium for your business.

Irrespective of your situation, searching for a new van insurance policy for your new van or perhaps, wanting to renew your existing policy, doing a little research can save you time and money on the long run. In this day and age, the way we search for information has been greatly influenced by the advent of the internet, and so provide the best place to begin your search for the least expensive van insurance quotes.

The Internet is a Good Starting Point For Your Van Insurance Research

Going through scores of different van insurance quotes manually is the perfect way to waste your time and money. Over the last decade comparison websites have sprung up to help you compare insurance quotes fast and saving you money on your premiums, use them!. All you need to do: fill out a simple form with your correct details on the comparison website then get lots of quotes from different insurers within seconds.

Although not all offer that;s guaranteed to meet your particular budget expectation, you will discover that some insurers are in a much better position to offer your desired level of cover at an incredibly reduced premium. After picking your ideal quote, it pays to always consult the insurer to confirm a detail or two about your chosen policy before committing to the insurance quote on offer.

While the internet is an ideal starting point for uncovering that elusive low cost van insurance premium, you also need to be prepared to contact your insurer to see what deal is available. It’s an ideal opportunity for you to determine what is contained within the policy you’re buying and what is not in it. Upon providing your new or amended details to the insurer after the initial quote, they may now use the new information to revise their previous quote which could even become cheaper still.- http://www.cheapestvaninsurance.org/

Call Up Your New Insurers To Discuss The Policy

Insurance for van is a little more of a specialist type of cover than car or even home insurance. Unfortunately, not all insurers can provide cover, in particular competitive premiums. Many a times, we avoid trying newer things instead, we stick with what we’ve been accustomed to, like getting quotes from the same insurer we’ve been with for ages . However, if you’re serious about reducing your premium you must to go the extra mile.

No matter how contented you may be with your current premium or insurer, it still pays to shop around to get even better bargain. Irrespective of the manner you search for a cheaper deal, using van insurance comparison sites or approaching individual insurers directly or through their websites, discovering discount quotes can be pretty straight forward.

If you are able to source a cheaper quote you can use that information to approach your current insurers (or indeed any others that you’re interested in) and discuss their competitor’s sites. These insurers are under no pressure to change their quotation, some might not even consider changing it, it simply establishes a medium of at least communication with the added chance of reducing your premium even further without amending your policy.

Confirming Your Policy

At this critical stage before your policy acceptance, you will be in a better position to figure out what’s best to retain or discard with your policy in order to keep your premium at a low. Typically, insurers would like to cross sell you on other insurance packages like legal expenses cover, personal injury cover, European cover and lots more. But, there isn’t any point buying any of these package when you really do not need them.

A policy thoroughly examined to strip of any unwanted extras and left with only the primary cover and protection needed. Don’t go increasing your level of excess by an insane amount, just make sure you aren’t paying for unwanted add- on. Getting rid of all the unwanted optional extras from your policy will help you save loads.

The bottom line though is when it comes to reducing van insurance premium you’ll need to be prepared to do some work. Whether that’s researching alternative providers online or phoning your current insurer to see if they can remove any unnecessary baggage, there are plenty of options to help you get the right result.

Turn your hobby into a second income

From eating free meals in restaurants to buying alcohol, we reveal six ways you could make extra money in your spare time.

Think of a typical weekend. How do you spend your free time apart from watching TV and having one too many beers?

If you have a particular hobby or interest, you might not realise you could use this activity to supplement your income. We show you how.

1. Web design

Tech wizards could put their expertise to use by designing and building websites for small businesses and start-ups.

As soon as you have a few satisfied customers, you could pick up more business through word of mouth.

You could also try advertising your services through websites such as PeoplePerHour and Freelancer.co.uk.

2. Become a mystery shopper

Many retailers employ mystery shoppers to review the quality of service in their branches – something that will probably come naturally if you hit the shops most weekends.

If you visit restaurants, you could end up with a free meal and having your expenses reimbursed.

If becoming a mystery shopper appeals to you, visit websites such as Market Force and Retail Maxim.

3. Car booting

Do you love to spend a Sunday morning or bank holiday haggling at your local car boot sale?

Then, you could set up your own stall and clear out the kids’ old school uniform or your old university textbooks.

For more information on how to sell your clutter, check out The £2,817 fortune in your attic.

4. DIY

Anyone with a knack for making home improvements or decorating could supplement their earnings by taking on odd jobs.

The amount you can charge will depend on the average rate in your area and how specialised your skills are.

Let’s say, for example, you charge £15 per hour and work five hours a week. You could pick up £75 per week, which would equate to £300 per month.

5. Arts and crafts

If you have a flair for knitting, making jewellery or homemade cards, you could sell your creations at arts and crafts fetes.

If you’d like to increase your customer base, you could consider setting up your own website. Alternatively, websites such as Etsy and Misi allow users to sell arts and crafts.

6. Going to the pub

If you’re a regular in your local watering hole, you could try to pick up a few shifts behind the bar.

You’ll probably still be able to chat to the regulars and they might even buy you a drink or two. Just try not to overdo it – getting drunk on the job is rarely a wise career move.

If you’re 18 or 19, you could get paid to buy alcohol if you register with Serve Legal. This service sends young people into pubs, supermarkets and off-licences to buy alcohol, so they can check whether staff are asking for ID – pretty sure that would have been my dream job when I was 18.

Sorry to end on a dull note, but if you are able to earn extra income, don’t forget to inform HMRC. This extra money could affect the amount of tax you pay or any benefits you receive.

Small children Under The Ages Of 2 Should Always Be Kept Rear- F

This kind of discovery by the United states Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is guaranteed to increase the method fathers and mothers fasten their kids when driving a vehicle.

Contained inside a recent policy published inside the issue of April 2011 of Pediatrics, dads and moms are encouraged to place their children within a rear-facing booster seat up till the age of 2 years old or alternatively when they've reached the required height as well as weight for their specific seat. However, the AAP also emphasized the need and importance of children riding in a booster seat that are easily belt positioned for their safety until they have attained a height of four feet and nine inches and aged between eight and twelve years old.

A former publication advised on the safest way for toddlers and infants to travel in a vehicle is to be sat in a rear-facing position up to the limit of the car seat with particular emphasis on kids aged one year old and weighing up to 20 pounds as the minimum age and weight allowed. Noticeably, a huge percentage of parents were observed changing their child's car seat position to a front facing one from rear-faced position upon their babies turning one.

"Parents are optimistic about the transition of their child from one stage to the other, nonetheless, these transitions can wait until they are needed, when the child completely outgrows the limits for his or her current stage," cited Dennis Durban, MD, FAAP, lead author of policy statement as well as accompanying technical report.

"Child safety seat with rear-facing features is a lot more protective and supportive of the head, neck and spine of babies and toddlers in the event of an accident, due to the manner it distributes the entire force of the collision over the whole body." Dr Durbin reintegrated. With bigger kids, forward facing seats with harnesses are safer than booster seats, also belt positioning booster seats gives better protection than seat belts alone until the seat belts work perfectly."

Although the level of deaths caused by vehicle accidents in children up to the ages of 16 years has diminished significantly, with a 45% reduction from 1997-2009, it is undoubtedly the number one and leading cause for deaths kids aged 4 years and above. Including teens and children of up to 21 years , the total deaths for each year is more than 5,000. Number of fatalities can be staggering, for every casualty, roughly 18 kids get admitted into hospital while nothing less than 400 children are injured enough to urgently require medical treatment.

Results from research made have uncovered the truth that kids are safer in rear-facing car seats. A recent study in the journal injury prevention established that children under the ages of two years are 25% more likely to survive in a severe accident if they are riding rear-faced.

"Ages 2 suggested is not ideally a deadline but like a guide for parents to understand the right time to make the transition, Dr Durbin instigated." Smaller children will benefit from remaining rear-facing longer, while other children may reach the maximum height or weight before 2 years of age.

Children must be transitioned from a rear facing car seat to a forward facing car seat that comes with harness for optimal safety, this should continue until they reach the required height and weight. Subsequently, a booster will guarantee the vehicle's laps and shoulders are belts fit securely.

The correct positioning of the seat belt should be for it to lie across in between the shoulder and the chest rather than laying across the face or the neck- as this can be dangerous in the event of an accident . The hips and upper thighs should be secured properly with the lap belt but should not go across the belly . Booster seat will be required for most kids until they have reached 4'9" and aged between 8- 12 years old.

Children must be sat in a booster seat or an Infant car seat in the rear seat of the vehicle till they have reached 13 years of age.

An appropriate age and size restraints are still needed for children under the ages of 2 years to ride on the laps of an adult even though the Federal Aviation Authority permits kids to ride on adult's laps.

To recap, kids of all ages should ride adequately secured on every journey what ever the method of mobility, in the air or on the roads. Said Dr Durbin.

Taking safety measures for your babies and toddlers in every aspect of your child's life is very essential these days. Accidents could occur when you least expect it. Baby bath tub, baby strollers, baby monitor and baby swings are just a few of the most highly recommended products you can invest in to avoid accidents in the future.
